We guarantee that this property will give you a Spanish flair from the very first moment: A phalanx of lush potted plants leads the way to the Mallorcan entrance with its silver doorbell. However, the reception by the cacti, which are lined up on low walls along the natural stone façade, is anything but tingling. Thanks to the favourable climate, green growth sprouts from every nook and cranny. There is even a vegetable garden, which is lovingly tended by the owners. In the well-tended garden, where even the local tortoises would love to shake off their shells and relax, it is the mighty palm trees, whose trunks are firmly anchored in the ground like elephant feet, that signal to their guests: This is a place where you can lie down, stretch out and let the sun warm your face on the lawn just as well as in the pool. The L-shape of the main house with its wrap-around patio cover creates such a variety of comfortable seating and lounging areas that everyone can find a cosy corner to themselves, but all the tables can still be pushed together in no time at all for a barbecue. Those who sleep in the outbuilding also have their own private outdoor area. Even cars really can't complain about a lack of parking space and shade; you'll soon be back on the road, which occasionally brings some traffic noise with it, depending on the wind direction.

Finca Diaz is just the thing for people who like exceptional comfort, solid furniture, heavy fabrics and frills, not to mention a cheerful mix of shapes and colours. The guest book in the entrance area is full of feel-good entries from delighted guests. The living rooms feel spacious and airy and are ideal for groups and large families. Like knights of the round table, everyone gathers around the long dining table - how about a traditional feast of tapas, sopas and paella, accompanied by a carafe or two of sweet island wine? At first glance, you might think that the kitchen is designed for a doll's house, but you'd be wrong. Look again it's open and inviting, with a corner for sitting and chatting to keep your chef company, and totally modern; the high-tech fridge-freezer can store food for the whole party, plus there's plenty of room for liquid refreshments. You have the option of sleeping in the main house or in the (somewhat quieter) neighbouring house next door. Separate living areas give you the opportunity to retreat for a while so you don't get on each other's nerves. Single or double bed? Simple or stately? With a bathroom in sunshine yellow, sea blue or a psychedelic look? What best reflects your holiday mood?

The blue and white striped lighthouse on the La Punta peninsula definitely knows where the spotlight should be: Your holiday port of Portocolom with its picturesque hillside streets, which fortunately are not yet overrun by tourists. In the new town you will find excellent fish dishes; at the northern end, the old town invites you to take an evening stroll. If you travel further towards the southern tip, the holiday region of Cala dOr with its rugged cliffs and attractive marina should definitely be at the top of your day trip target list. From here, keen cyclists can easily reach the sleepy Portopetro and the sandy double bay of Cala Mondrago, perhaps the most beautiful bathing spot on the island. Then, at the southernmost point of Mallorca, Cap de ses Salines, a far is waiting to pave the way for lonely coastal hikers ...

From Villa Diaz you can almost see the fishing boats setting sail from the harbour of Portocolom; by car on the Ma-4012 it is barely two minutes to the village and to stroll along the picturesque harbour promenade. Nevertheless, this quiet residential area is ideally located for a trip to one of the bays of the fine sandy beaches of the east coast or to explore the southern tip from Santanyi to Colònia de Sant Jordi on a boat trip or a hike.
