Idyllically situated clay brick house, ideal for nature lovers
The house is on an elevation and from here you can enjoy a beautiful view of the river. As a journalist once said: a house with a view of utopia. That is how it is. There are a little cork oak forest and horses on the side of the slope.
The house with around 90m² of living space can accommodate two adults and two children and occupies the ground floor. It has a living room with a fold-out sofa for two people, a dining table, a bathroom with a shower and a hallway in the entrance area. The accommodation has a hot water supply, an oven and a fridge, all with security handles, a gas bottle for cooking, 220 volt electricity, a photovoltaic system, energy saving bulbs, a computer, radio/CD, mixer and juicer. If you think this is a house like any other, then you are wrong. The house is made of clay bricks and is cool in summer and warm at night in winter. If you are still cold, you can light the wood-burning stove, so the house has a pleasant temperature all year round.
The plot of land spans 20 hectares and so it is ideal for extended walks and is just 600 metres from the river. You can walk there are discover the wealth of rare flora, as well as animals you have never seen before. You can swim in the river, as river pollution is unheard of here, or simply laze on a chair to admire one of the few places in the world where this is still possible. Luckily the river has a clay content, which is advantageous for your skin.
The access way is passable and you can drive right up to the house by car, although it is easier with a jeep. There is no noise, just the wind and a breathtaking starry sky, which is blue even at night. The forecourt roof can slide open and closed to heat or cool the house. Water is supplied by gravity from a height of 44m from a spring on site, with a pump that is also solar-powered. It is always disinfected, but as a precaution we recommend not to use it as drinking water. On arrival, a bottle of water, bread and milk are provided. Bed linen and hand towels are changed once a week.
The nearest house is 400 metres away. There is a small grocery shop in the café 900 metres away, a supermarket about 6km away and a larger one about 12km away. If you do not want to relax amidst nature, then do not come here. It is a place with proliferating plants. You can watch birds from the kitchen window with binoculars, such as peregrine falcons, various eagles, hawks, ravens, owls (difficult, as they are active at night), and there are also rabbits, hares, ferrets, weasels and martens, bad-tempered badgers, and if everything is completely quiet in the right place at the right time, then even the rare otter. You can also see wild boar crossing the river early in the day. Furthermore, you are near the pilgrimage trail leading from Alentejo to Santiago de Compostela.
