    “Der Ort ist sehr übersichtlich. Einen kleinen Einkaufsmarkt gibt es. Leider war dieser gerade während unserer Urlaubszeit geschlossen. Daher mussten wir uns in den Nachbarorten nach Einkaufsmöglichkeiten umsehen. Im Ort ist zudem ein Bäcker. Mehrer kleine Gasthäuser gibt es auch. Wir haben diese weniger genutzt, da wir mit kleinen Kindern unterwegs waren. Unsere Küche in der Wohnung hat uns als Ersatz gut gedient. Der Spielplatz vor Ort ist besonders für Kleinkinder empfehlenswert. Ein umfangreiches Freizeitangebot gibt es in der näheren Umgebung.”

    “Gehlberg ist anders als einige Orte in der Umgebung keine touristische Hochburg, hat aber seinen eigenen Reiz. Die Landschaft ist toll und lädt zum ausgiebigen Wandern ein. Es gibt einen kleinen Edeka-Laden, eine Metzgerei (die auch Brötchen anbietet) und einige gute Restaurants, von denen uns der "Hirsch" in bester Erinnerung bleiben wird.
    Zur Zeit (Sommer 2013) ist die Hauptstraße auf längerer Strecke wegen Arbeiten an einer neuen Kanalisation gesperrt, was zu langen Wartezeiten an einer Ampel der einspurigen Umleitungsstrecke führt. Wenn man aber nicht gerade an der Baustelle wohnt, sind die Unannehmlichkeiten überschaubar.
    Der Wander- oder Radfahrfreund wird sich in Gehlberg wohl fühlen, wer Trubel und Unterhaltung sucht, sollte vielleicht besser nach Oberhof ausweichen.”
