This is how holiday rental owners described Oliveto Lario

On the coastal road that goes from Lecco to Bellagio, you meet Oliveto Lario ( 1,111 inhabitants), and its name suggests the mildness of the climate and the landscape. The cultivation of the olive, brought on Lake Como in Roman times, is still very much alive, and fruits over 200 ...

quintals of olives, which give a precious oil .

It was created by the union of three locations: Onno, Vassena and Limonta.

The center of the village of Onno is located at the foot of a high cliff called the Stone of Onno. Its historical core was once located further south, near the church of St. Anne, which still exists. This until 1896, when a flood destroyed the village.

The middle fraction, Vassena, where there is the city hall, seems to have been a land virtually uninhabited until around the year one thousand. It was founded by fishermen and farmers coming from Mandello del Lario, facing the opposite bank, after passing through the few kilometers of the lake with the typical rowboats then called " Lucie".

The village of Limonta has more ancient origins. In the year 835, Emperor Lotario gave that land to the Abbots of the Basilica of Sant'Ambrogio in Milan, as an imperial fief (together with Civenna and Campione d'Italia), and it remained so for eight centuries until, in 1797, it was annexed to the Cisalpine Republic.

Significant at Limonta:
The church of S. Ambrogio e Bernardo, of medieval origin and rebuilt in 1673. Inside, a lombard polyptych of 1400 and a "Sacra conservazione" of the Venetian school of the sixteenth century.
Upstream of the churchyard stands a mighty dry wall, built in the time of Empress Maria Teresa of Austria, in the protection of the church.

The Shrine of the Madonna del Moletto, built on a rock overlooking the lake, on the border with Bellagio. It consists of two overlapping chapels, the lower dating back to 1606, and the upper dating back to 1624, and has an altar of the thirteenth century, as well as an important cycle of frescoes by the Recchi brothers.

A few kilometers from Limonta there is Bellagio, " the pearl of Lake Como", renowned resort, situated at the head of a promontory that divides the two branches of Lake Como.

Due to its location, it enjoys a splendid view of the Alps.
Bellagio is a combination of picturesque paths with stairways full of shops and renowned restaurants.
Besides visiting various villas and gardens, from Bellagio you can take numerous trips and excursions by foot, by car or by ferry-boat.
