Paths between History and Nature in the tuscan countryside
For those who like listen to the silence and enjoy quiet walks, this farmhouse in Tuscany is the right place.
Around the Farmhouse the marvellous countryside, forest and hills and innumerable paths to explore on foot or by bicycle.
Along the Arno River, the second largest river of central Italy and the main river of Tuscany, the Nature Reserves "Valle dell'Inferno e Bandella" and "Ponte a Buriano e Penna", with a large variety of birds such as herons, magpies, mallards, moorhens and kingfishers; in different periods of the year you can observe ducks and during migration, in spring and autumn, with a little luck, you can see the osprey and the lonely marsh harrier.
Easily accessible by a short walk, the "Romito Bridge", dating back to Roman times, and built to connect the Cassia Vetus street to Rome and Florence. The presence of the bridge is also reported in the late Middle Ages and more specifically in 1198.
Near to the bridge, the "Hospital of San Cataldo" founded in 1109 by Benedictine monks of Holy Trinity in the Alps.
Not far, the oratory of "Santa Maria in Valle", from the seventeenth century, built in an area related to the ancient cult of water and where it was found the image of a Madonna. Here are still held solemn processions, weddings and baptisms.
